Who are Mongolians?
According to legend, Mongolian ancestors are blue wolf and beautiful deer who settled in Mongolian territory. Mongolian tribes inhabited from Great Wall of China to Lake Baikal from ancient time. The southern part of the Mongols living along the China border was called the White Tatar, and the northern Mongols were called the Black Tatars. Also all tribes in Mongolia were generally classified as Foresters and Steppe Nomads.
At its peak time, Mongolians build Mongol Empire in 13th century and at its lowest point, Mongolia was under Manchu domination. Today some Mongolians also live as minorities in Russia, China and Afghanistan. Mongolian people belonging to the Buryat and Kalmyk subgroups live predominantly in the Russian. Inner Mongolians are part of China.
