The provincial center, Tsetserleg, serves as the vibrant heart of Arkhangai. The province itself comprises 19 administrative villages and 99 subdistricts, hosting a population of approximately 91,559 residents.

Nestled at an impressive altitude of 2,414 meters above sea level, Arkhangai offers a dramatic contrast in elevation: the towering Kharlagtai Peak rises to 3,539 meters, the province’s highest point, while the delta formed by the confluence of the Orkhon and Tamir rivers sits at its lowest point of 1,290 meters.

Tourists frequently visit Arkhangai to immerse themselves in its captivating natural attractions, including the volcanic formations at Khorgo, the serene beauty of Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, and the invigorating waters of Tsenkher Hot Springs. Other remarkable locations such as the Chuluut River canyon, Choidog rapids, Senjit Cliff, Suvarga Khairkhan Mountain, Taikhar Rock, Bichigt Khangai, and the stunning Ugii Lake further enhance the province’s appeal. Arkhangai’s lands are also historically rich, dotted with ancient tombs, Kheregsuurs (stone funerary monuments), ruins of long-forgotten cities, fascinating stone statues, and intricate petroglyphs that provide a glimpse into Mongolia’s ancient past.

Economically, Arkhangai Province excels in agriculture, specifically animal husbandry, ranking second nationally in Mongolia in terms of livestock population. As of 2023, Arkhangai was home to approximately 4,847,420 domesticated animals, including goats, sheep, cattle (yaks and khainags included), horses, and camels. Notably, camel herding is primarily concentrated in the southeastern villages, highlighting the diverse agricultural practices across the region.
